And they were both naked, the man and his    wife, and were not ashamed.

This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the Church.

                       (Ephesians 5:32)

Prologue

This was all a bad idea. Very bad one! What on earth had gotten into her? How did she think it unsinful to have dressed suggestively and try to enchant her pastor with her looks? What in God’s name was she thinking? How had she allowed her emotions taken the wheel instead of God’s Spirit?

“Oh, God, I’m sorry. I acted a fool,” Oluwasayomi cried, mumbling into her napkin.

The night before, she had been going through her diary where she documented all the things she got in fellowship with God. Then she came across all her receptions about being the one for the pastor of her church. She had forgotten about it until then. Reading them made somewhat excited and confident of God’s love towards her.

Then out of the blues, she began to wonder if she needed to do something to get the pastor to know that she had received him. Had she been too quiet? It’s twelve months since she received him. Perhaps she needed to send some sort of signals to him, just to let him know God had told her about it. After all, even Esther found favour in the sight of the king because of her beauty. Maybe not just beauty, but at least the beauty was part of it. So if she also decided to shoot her shot by just dressing nicely and allowing God reveal his glory through her beauty, she wasn’t doing any wrong, was she?

And that was what she did. Her church pastor had asked her to come with him to a program he had been invited to. He wanted her to minister in songs as the Music Director had recommended her when he requested for someone from the choir. Sayo felt that was the perfect opportunity she needed. So she had dressed to kill- like a godly slay queen, she had called it. The lilac gown she had worn fitted her body like a second skin, showing off all the curves she had in the right place. It barely reached her knees and it’d be impossible for her to bend down without it revealing her thighs. The neckline was also a bit low, lower than what she would have worn normally and revealing a fraction of her cleavage. But she convinced herself it was still modest.

However, when she stood face to face with the pastor moments after, she knew it was the wrong thing to do. His eyes rebuked her even before he uttered anything. He had glared hot at her for a long time and then calmly told her to return home.

“I think I’d do fine without a music minister”

And with that he had her dismissed. Sayo felt miserable on the inside. The moment she got into her room, she threw herself on the floor and wept. How foolish she was! She had ignored all the warnings and checks her spirit had sent her. And now she might spend the rest of her life regretting it.

To be continued.
